The West Highland Way
The West Highland Way is a 96 mile (154 km) long distance route and was Scotland’s first long distance trail. The route starts at Milngavie on the outskirts of Glasgow and passes through some of the most spectacular scenery in Britain, from the shores of Scotland’s largest Loch to the foot of its highest mountain.The route initially passes through lowland farmland and woodland before a climb over Conic Hill, with its amazing views across the highland scenery before following the shores of Loch Lomond to reach the village of Inverarnan. The route continues through Glen Falloch with its spectacular waterfall to reach the half way point at Crainlarich.The route continues to cross the wild expanse of Rannoch Moor to the Kingshouse Hotel at the head of Glencoe, before climbing the “Devils Staircase” and a descent to Kinlochleven. The final stage takes you through the Lairigmor pass to Glen Nevis and to reach Fort William.The scenery and views along the route are some of Scotland’s finest and in fact this is the most popular trail in Scotland attracting visitors from around the world to enjoy this amazing adventure.The route is extremely popular and attracts around 17,000 walkers a year with accommodation often selling out many months in advance. We therefore recommend you book as early as possible to secure your accommodation and to avoid disappointment. |

General InformationThe distances and ascents / descents are approximate and for guidance only. The individual making the booking is responsible for ensuring that each member of the party is suitably equipped with standard / survival equipment as necessary for the route / terrain involved. InsuranceIt is advisable that you and each member of your party, takes out holiday insurance to protect yourselves, equipment, luggage and to cover against non-refundable costs should you have to cancel your trip due to unexpected circumstances or ill health. You should ensure that any such policy covers you for the activities being undertaken during your holiday. NavigationThe route is clearly marked. However there are some remote and isolated sections and these can be difficult during periods of bad weather or poor visibility. Therefore good navigation skills are essential for undertaking this route. Experience & FitnessThe tour is suitable for most people with good physical fitness. The route is graded as challenging, with sections of rugged terrain with many height gains and losses. In addition some sections contain remote and isolated sections. EquipmentYou should always ensure you are properly equipped for your walking holiday and prepared for varying weather conditions along the route. Your holiday pack contains a detailed equipment list which includes standard walking / survival equipment for a days walking. Luggage TransfersYour luggage will be transferred each day between each overnight accommodation as detailed within your itinerary. Please check with your accommodation provider where your bags should be left for collection each morning. Luggage transfers are one bag with a maximum weight of 20kg per person. |

AccommodationWe use comfortable hotels, country inns, guest-houses and B&B’s in selecting your accommodation and aim to provide these as close to the trail as possible. We work closely with all of our accommodation providers, each one being selected based on their quality of accommodation and the warm welcomes they provide. We will always request accommodation with private en-suite facilities, but in remoter locations this may not always be available. Please note, that due to the route and location of available accommodation you may need to walk / travel a short distance where accommodation is not available along the route (We can provide taxi transfers if required and booked in advance), your holiday pack will contain directions and location map of each nights accommodation. MealsAll of our holidays are provided on a Bed & Breakfast basis, thus giving you the flexibility to choose your own options for lunch and evening meals. Your holiday pack will contain information on the options available along the route to stop for lunch and places to obtain an evening meal locally, along with places to obtain packed lunches. Accommodation providers may be able to offer evening meals and packed lunches by prior arrangement if this should be required. Single Rooms and Solo WalkersIf you require single room either as an individual or as part of a group we would be happy to accommodate you although a single room supplement is payable. Additional NightsYou can book as many extra nights as you wish, just tell us during your booking where you would like to spend extra days and we would be happy to arrange this for you and provide a quotation and personalised itinerary for this. |
