SWCP - Cornwall's Far West

Walking around the far tip of Cornwall to the most westerly point in England at Lands End, before the more sheltered coastal valleys of the south coast and onto Penzance. The path follows a wild and remote section of the coast and through the Cornish Mining World Heritage site.
Leaving St Ives behind the coast path enters one of the toughest sections of the entire route with rocky ground but with views to make up for the slow pace. The landscape is beautiful and rugged, but also strenuous as the path descends from the towering cliffs to small coves to then climb back up again as it heads to the lighthouse at Pendeen Watch. From here you pass through Cornwall's oldest mining district and around Cape Cornwall to the golden sands of Sennen Cove to reach Lands End. The coast path then heads along exposed high cliffs and granite boulders to proceed through the small villages of Porthcurno and Lamorna, again with high cliffs and steep ascents and descents to reach Mousehole where it turns to easy walking along a tarmac road to Penzance.

  • The dramatic Atlantic coastline with its rugged cliffs and sandy beaches.
  • Visiting Lands End, the most westerly point in England.
  • Spotting wildlife including seals, dolphins and basking sharks.
