Choosing a holiday

What is a self-guided walking holiday?

A self guided walking holiday is one where you guide yourself from one location to the next using maps and guidebooks or route notes provided. You choose the pace at which you wish to walk and when and where to stop for breaks or relax and admire the views. We arrange your accommodation for each night, daily luggage transfers between each accommodation and provide the maps and guidebooks.

How long are your self guided holidays?

We offer self guided tours from a minimum of 3 nights upwards. The maximum length of your holiday is entirely up to you.

When can I go on a holiday?

Most of our holidays are available all year round, although the main walking season is from March until November. Each of our walk pages has details on availability of the route in question. We would be more than happy to organise a holiday outside the main season, but please contact us to check availability of accommodation.

Can I choose different start and end points for my holiday?

Yes of course, our itinerary’s are shown as a guide only and thus you can start and finish your holiday at any point along the route. In addition you may also decide you want to walk the route in the reverse direction to that shown. We can offer a tailor made itinerary and quotation if you should wish.

Can I vary the published itinerary?

Yes of course, if you would like to add rest days or change the published itinerary in anyway, we would be glad to work with you to come up with an itinerary and quotation  suited to your individual needs and requirements.

I want to walk a route not listed on your website, can you arrange this for me?

Yes, just contact us with the route you would like to walk and the distance you wish to travel each day, along with the number of people and we would be happy to prepare a quotation for you.

Can I include rest days to my holiday?

Yes you can book as many extra nights as you wish, just tell us during your booking where you would like to spend extra days and we would be happy to arrange this for you and provide a quotation and personalised itinerary for this.

I would like to walk alone, is this a problem?

No, we are happy to cater for individuals who wish to walk alone. However in order to cover the additional costs of providing maps and guides for one rather than two and in addition supplements charged by accommodation / luggage transfer providers a Solo walker supplement will be applied to all solo bookings.

Do you cater for children?

We are happy to cater for children as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. The cost of such a holiday will be subject to the availability of suitable family accommodation along your chosen walking route. If you would like to walk with children please contact us so we can advise you of the options available to you and a quote for your chosen holiday.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, many of our accommodation suppliers have facilities for dogs, however please check with us before booking so we can help plan your itinerary and check availability.

Do I need to be good at navigation and map reading?

Most of the trails are well marked, please see the specific route page for more information. We provide you with a detailed guide and Ordnance Survey 1:25000 scale maps, but in addition we recommend you carry a compass in case of bad weather or poor visibility.

Do you provide maps and guides?

Yes, we will provide each booking with one set of Ordnance Survey Explorer maps (1:25000 scale) along with a guidebook or detailed walking notes covering your chosen route.

What is a single walker supplement?

The single walker supplement is an additional charge for people walking as part of a group, but who require single occupancy of a twin or double room or occupancy of a single room, but where other costs (e.g. Maps and guides) are being shared by the group.

Our prices are based on two people sharing a room, this supplement therefore covers the additional costs incurred by booking a single room or for single occupancy of a double or twin room.

What is a solo walker supplement?

The solo walker supplement is an additional charge for people walking alone.

Our prices are based on two people sharing a room, this supplement therefore covers the additional costs incurred by booking a single room or for single occupancy of a double or twin room. In addition it covers the extra costs incurred by supplying a set of maps and guides and luggage transfers for one person, where these costs would normally be shared by two people.
