The Coleridge Way
|The Coleridge Way - Walking in the footsteps of the romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
The Coleridge Way is a 51 mile walk through the stunning and breathtaking Somerset countryside of the Quantock Hills, Brendon Hills and Exmoor, a landscape that inspired Coleridge to produce some of his best known work.
The route takes you through wild and remote landscapes, up over moorland, down ancient wooded valleys and through historic villages, finishing on Exmoor’s dramatic coastline.
You will travel through a variety of landscapes: heathland, moorland, deciduous & coniferous woodland, farmland, deeply wooded valleys and historic villages with expansive views over the North Somerset Coast and Wales.

Getting to Nether Stowey

By Bus - There is currently NO bus service to Nether Stowey.
Returning from Lynmouth

Alternative options include a taxi or the Exmoor Moor Rover service to Minehead to connect with regular bus services to Taunton.
The distances and ascents / descents are approximate and for guidance only. The individual making the booking is responsible for ensuring that each member of the party is suitably equipped with standard / survival equipment as necessary for the route / terrain involved.
It is advisable that you and each member of your party, takes out holiday insurance to protect yourselves, equipment, luggage and to cover against non-refundable costs should you have to cancel your trip due to unexpected circumstances or ill health. You should ensure that any such policy covers you for the activities being undertaken during your holiday.
The route is way-marked with a quill symbol. However some sections are remote and can be very difficult during periods of bad weather or poor visibility. Navigation skills will therefore possibly be needed when crossing these sections.
Experience & Fitness
The tour is suitable for most people with good physical fitness. The route is graded as moderate, but the section from Porlock to Ash Farm is strenuous and involves a long steep climb of 4.75 miles with an ascent of 473 metres.
You should always ensure you are properly equipped for your walking holiday and prepared for varying weather conditions along the route. Your holiday pack contains a detailed equipment list which includes standard walking / survival equipment for a days walking.
Your luggage will be transferred each day between each overnight accommodation as detailed within your itinerary. Please check with your accommodation provider where your bags should be left for collection each morning. Luggage transfers are one bag with a maximum weight of 20kg per person.
We use comfortable hotels, country inns, guest-houses and B&B's in selecting your accommodation and aim to provide these as close to the trail as possible. We work closely with all of our accommodation providers, each one being selected based on their quality of accommodation and the warm welcomes they provide. We will always request accommodation with private en-suite facilities, but in remoter locations this may not always be available. Please note, that due to the route and location of available accommodation you may need to walk / travel a short distance where accommodation is not available along the route (We can provide taxi transfers if required and booked in advance), your holiday pack will contain directions and location map of each nights accommodation.
All of our holidays are provided on a Bed & Breakfast basis, thus giving you the flexibility to choose your own options for lunch and evening meals. Your holiday pack will contain information on the options available along the route to stop for lunch and places to obtain an evening meal locally, along with places to obtain packed lunches. Accommodation providers may be able to offer evening meals and packed lunches by prior arrangement if this should be required.
Single Rooms and Solo Walkers
If you require single room either as an individual or as part of a group we would be happy to accommodate you although a single room supplement is payable.
You can book as many extra nights as you wish, just tell us during your booking where you would like to spend extra days and we would be happy to arrange this for you and provide a quotation and personalised itinerary for this.
